About RESPITE

Reconfigurable Superconducting
and Photonic Technologies of the Future

Neuromorphic computing is a growing scientific and industrial field with applications in machine learning, remote sensing, robotics, automotive, biomedical technologies, military, and many more areas. By bringing together industrial and academic partners and by exploiting outcomes via start-ups, we aim to create the foundation of a radically new technology that will put Europe at the forefront of neuromorphic computing. We will provide technology demonstrators for three important areas of future market uptake:

(1) Online medical imaging and processing on the same chip
(2) Quantum ghost imaging
(3) Optical fiber dispersion compensation in high-speed telecommunication links.

The remarkable ability of superconductors to conduct without dissipation has already led to numerous applications, such as medical devices, fast digital circuits, and sensors. It is only logical to apply this technique to neuromorphic computing, where power consumption is a huge bottleneck for scaling up. With our proof of concept, we will overcome this roadblock and enable unprecedented large circuit sizes.
